StRaNgErs

“Stranger” is a word which intrigues me so much. Apparently enough, it seems that I miss my relatives, my friends, my neighbours, who constitute the major part of our lives, but then, on more profound scrutiny I realized it was the strangers in my life that I miss the most. Are they strangers? Or are they not? Because I see them every day, in the form of my milkman, my newspaper boy, or that random man at the edge of the road who sells street food. They are known strangers, for our physical forms know each other, but the heart has remained strangers to theirs, ever since. Kudos to the power of the humans to stay in proximity and yet far!
Most of the times we don’t even bother to ask the names of so many strangers in our lives, like the ones in our college, but they become so much known that they get woven into our fabric of life, and yet they remain strangers. We have a lot of friends who, when we pass by, we wave a ‘Hi’ to, but we barely even know them.

Time and again has it happened that when I visit some shop after a long time, the shopkeepers unnaturally inquire if I am fine. Those sparks of worries make it visible to me. If our hearts never met, how could I explain this? And if our hearts indeed were acquaintances, why then, the ‘stranger’ image? “It’s all money, if you don’t go to his shop, he loses customer,” people explain, but then he has many more customers other than me, why so much attention to me? Besides, the whole world revolves around monetary causes, but then relationships still exist, and I do believe in relationships, very strongly. I see a staff member passing in front of my class or notice someone travelling by bus every morning as I go to college but I never interact with him. Then suddenly for some days I don’t spot him, and when I do finally see him again is my soul at peace. This feeling is amazing, the pent up emotions for an unknown person can never be explained or expressed, but this relationship amongst strangers is strange, sublime and silent.
This is like a game that we play, like hide and seek, life is like a long train journey and in between large and important stations which we very well know of, these strangers in life are like small unknown stations which we are eager to know about, but never do we break our journey in between to find out about those stations, we let that curiosity keep us driving, and this is precisely the game, the day these ‘strangers’ would become ‘known’ the game would be lost.

RE Dos ;)

Being a NIFTian, one thing you would easily connect to is the "redos". It won’t take long for you to get accustomed to it. It’s like living up the Kabir das' doha "Guru Kumhar Sikh Kumbh Hai, Gadh Gadh Kadhe Khot Antar Hath Sahar De, Bahar Bahe Chot". It hurts at times, frustrates us, for all the faults that the professor manages to find, in something you thought was exceptionally your best work. And to do it again after the hours and days you invested in it???  After the efforts you put in!! Well... :(
But that’s the glory of it after all, and you slowly understand why is it NIFT.
The mentors are your best supports and your greatest critics at the same time. Who tell you thousand things to do and you might feel you are losing over your originality, but what you THINK is not always the reality. And they are the ones who being a critic can help you face the bitter reality better, learn better, and in the end help you know your potentials better.
WE are lucky to have mentors who take interest in our lives and future, while we ourselves forget that, being lost in the moment. :)
It’s difficult to sum up the role of our teachers in words. But you are sure to enjoy the sweet and salty moments with them with appreciations and the redos :D

Food for Soul

One of the toughest things that teeny tiny teenagers have to do while leaving home for college with their big suitcases, apart from giving up all the good homemade food, is, leaving the person who makes it for them with utmost love.

This is where the rescuers in disguise arrive. They make your transition from MHK (Maa ke Haath ka Khaana) to MHK (Mashi ke Haath ka Khaana) really simple. They are the eating joints, or as the jargon goes, ‘dhabas’ right inside and outside college.

Their culinary prowess and their quick service make them an instant hit. They have a motley variety available right from the morning till the evening; vegetarian, eggetarian, non-vegetarian or diet-arian; there’s always something for everybody. You have your freedom of customizing every dish too: a little cheese in your Dosa or some broccoli and chilli in your Wai Wai. The best part being, they are really easy on the pocket. And the street grease adds the required flavouring

The gossip, the budding romance and the bird-watching comes gratis with the omelettes and the momos and the likes. They provide more than just food; they provide a hangout ‘adda’. They satiate more than just hunger. This food doesn’t go straight to the thighs; it goes straight to the soul with the accompanied conversations of your friends. Hog on!

A lot can happen over coffee, and at Biju da’s. :)
